Creative Technology + Visual Design + 3D Modeling + Augmented Reality
This augmented reality piece invites viewers to use an iPad to enter a parallel world, one that appears more real than the visible world we perceive with our own eyes.
In this AR experience, I explore the theme of daily life in the information age, where big data constantly monitors our actions. Our online browsing, searching, and interactions are collected and analyzed by big data algorithms, which then recommend personalized content to us. While many people find this convenience appealing, they often overlook the underlying implications. Big data possesses the ability to know and scrutinize almost every aspect of our lives, eroding our privacy without us even realizing it. This uncomfortable reality forms the backdrop of the world we inhabit.
Each model in the installation features 1s and 0s, representing the binary digits of computers. Each object serves as a symbol for the personalized recommendations generated by big data algorithms. In the accompanying documentation video, I interweave various scenes to convey the pervasive nature of surveillance. No matter where we are, the moment we pick up our phones or other communication devices, we become subjects under observation.
The background music, composed in MAX8, incorporates a composition I created along with random numbers. This electronic music, akin to the electronic world, is not fully controllable, mirroring the unpredictable and constantly evolving nature of the digital realm.
