We are in an age of self-reflection and introspection. The interactive installation, Ruminating #01, explores the phenomenon of rumination. Rumination involves repetitive thinking about past events and the negative emotions associated with them. Individuals often analyze the causes and effects of these events, but get trapped in a cycle of overthinking without finding solutions. Unfortunately, rumination can lead to problems like insomnia and even depression, as individuals struggle to break free from the cycle.
Through this work, a prominent image featuring four circles symbolizes the emotions and negative impact associated with rumination. The image is projected from above, encompassing the viewer within the circles, allowing for an intuitive experience of the discomfort generated by ruminating thoughts.
As the viewer remains within the installation, the initially ordinary image undergoes changes, signaling the onset of rumination. The deformation of the image reflects the growing unease, compelling the viewer to seek an escape from the circles. Upon stepping out, the image reverts back to its original form, symbolizing that by shifting attention away from the negative event causing distress, individuals can alleviate their pain and perceive things as less complicated or bleak.
